Lorin Dixon: The Heart Behind ZaveryCakes

From the Court to the Kitchen. From a Family Moment to a Global Movement.
🥞 Where the Idea Was Born

Before ZaveryCakes was a brand, it was a moment. One morning with my niece. She asked me for Mickey Mouse pancakes, and I thought, easy. I made the three-circle version we all know, but she looked at it and said, “No, TT… I want it to look exactly like Mickey Mouse.” I tried again, but I couldn’t draw Mickey’s face to save my life. She refused to eat it.

So I went online searching for something that could help me make what she wanted, something that could turn breakfast into the magic she imagined. But there was nothing.

And that’s when the idea hit me: Why doesn’t something like this exist? Why can’t we bring fandom (the characters we love) into our kitchens? I’m a collector at heart. The tv show Supernatural and Charmed. The singer, Aaliyah. I’ve always surrounded myself with the worlds and stories that inspire me.

And I realized that what my 5-year-old niece wanted was the same thing I, a grown woman in my 30s, wanted too: a way to connect joy, creativity, and the things we love through something as simple as pancakes. That was the spark.

The dream of ZaveryCakes was born that day, a year before my son, Avery, was even here to help name it.

🏀 From the Court to the Kitchen

I’m Lorin Dixon, a former UConn Husky, 2X NCAA Champion, McDonalds All-American, WNBA player, Olympian, founder of ZaveryCakes, and proud mom to my little guy, Avery. Basketball taught me discipline, resilience, and vision, but it was motherhood that taught me how to dream differently.

During the pandemic, I decided it was time to finally bring this idea to life, for my son, for my family, and for anyone who ever wanted to bring a little more joy into their home. That’s when ZaveryCakes truly came to life.

🥞 What We Believe

In a world where everything feels rushed, expensive, and disconnected, ZaveryCakes is about slowing down and bringing people together. Our molds are for families, collectors, kids, and the kids-at-heart. They’re for the people who love pop culture, who still smile at the sound of a cartoon theme song, who believe magic belongs in everyday moments.

Because food should do more than feed you. It should remind you who you are; joyful, creative, connected.

🌍 A Brand Making History

ZaveryCakes is proudly a Black-owned, woman-owned, family-run company and the first Black-owned kitchenware brand with official licensing deals from Nickelodeon, Paramount, Warner Bros. and the NBA.

Our molds have appeared at the NBA Store, Hot Topic, Fanatics, and beyond, but what matters most are the stories we hear from families who tell us:

“My kids light up every Saturday morning.”

“This made our whole weekend.”

“We actually sit at the table together again.”

"My husband uses it every game day."

Those stories and comments from our customers, well that’s the championship I’m chasing now.

đź’« From Our Family to Yours

Every mold starts with one goal, to help people make memories that last forever. From birthday breakfasts to holiday mornings to everyday smiles. ZaveryCakes isn’t just kitchenware. It’s connectionware. We’re here to help you bring that spark of joy home; one pour, one flip, one laugh at a time.
